PROPOSAL TO RAISE COMMERCIAL RATE IN THE COUNTY BY 4.8 PER CENT

Date Published: 17-Dec-2007
The commercial rate for businesses in county Galway is to rise by 4.8 per cent next year. Galway county council will also spend 160 million running the county in 2008. County manager Martina Moloney has been outlining the 2008 county budget to councillors this afternoon. Councillors have begun responding to the county budget for 2008 and it's receiving a broad welcome so far but questions are also being raised as to businesses ability to pay the next year's commercial rate increase. Martina Moloney is recommending it be increased by 4.8 per cent to 65.61. She claims this will generate income of 21 million euro for the council, some 12 per cent of total revenue.
