There's a proposal that farmers in county Galway be given a small payment to cut hedges during the summer, rather than the Council employing staff to do it.Fianna Fáil election candidate for the Loughrea electoral area, Gerry Finnerty claims it costs the Council about 140 thousand euro a year to trim hedges in Loughrea and that the Council is lacking in funds.
