PORTUMNA BRIDGE TO REOPEN NEXT MONTH

Date Published: 20-Jul-2011

The long overdue re-opening of the Portumna bridge is to go ahead next month.

The closure of the bridge, which is claimed to have caused travel disruptions and a slow down in local trade, is to be re-opened by mid August.

It was initially closed down for restoration works last October with a finishing date of December, but that has continually been delayed.

Traffic in Portumna has been reduced to one lane to accommodate the works, however it's been agreed that a two-way traffic system will operate for next weeks Galway races.

Local councillor Jimmy McClearn says this is welcome news along with the completion date of August 17th.
