A Galway Senator is calling on the housing Minister to review clauses attached to planning permissions.

Labour Senator Lorraine Higgins says clauses such as specifying that the applicant must come from the area can be very restrictive for a property seller.

She's also questioning if such demands could be in breach of a person's constitutional and EU property rights.

The purpose of an enurement clause is to enable the local authority to grant permission for residential development in controlled areas to meet thespecific needs of particular applicants.

However, Senator Lorraine Higgins says the clauses are causing problems for people especially in a tough economic climate
