Three amigos on Galway sporting trail for half a century

These Ballinasloe boyos are heading to watch Galway together in Croke Park this weekend – like they’ve been doing for over half a century.
Three amigos Thomas O’Connor, Son Madden and Lar Reilly have been attending Galway hurling and football matches, club and county, in league and championship, together since 1964.
The trio are among the tens of thousands of supporters from all over the county and city heading East as Galway takes on Kilkenny in the All-Ireland senior hurling final, and face Tipperary in the minor final curtain raiser on Sunday.
Galway fans will complete the mass exodus from the West and the western invasion and takeover of Dublin – on Saturday night tens of thousands of Mayo football fans will be in the capital as the Connacht champions take on Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final replay.
Anthony Cunningham’s seniors are aiming to end a 27-year famine, and win the All-Ireland senior hurling championship for the first time since 1988.
