Sinn Féin’s Mark Lohan has been eliminated on the sixth count following the distribution of Thomas Welby’s transfers.

Lohan won just 3,208 votes on the first count – a disappointing seventh place given the party’s sitting TD Mairéad Farrell topped the poll here in the General Election in 2024.

Oughterard-based Welby’s transfers went heavily to his Moycullen neighbours Noel Thomas (Ind Ire) and Sean Kyne (FG) with the former getting more ( 1,171 versus 840).

That means Thomas has extended his lead but not by as big a margin as he would have liked.

Cillian Keane (FF) goes back into fourth place ahead of Míde Nic Fhionnlaoich (Soc Dem).
