PLANS TO UPGRADE STERILISATION UNIT AT MERLIN PARK HOSPITAL

The Health Service Executive West is hoping to establish a new Sterile Services Department at Merlin Park Hospital to address what's been described as its current "grossly inadequate" unit.It has submitted a planning application for a single storey extension to the main hospital block, which will enable the transfer of day surgery to Merlin Park.According to the application, the sterile services department at Merlin Park Hospital is needed to address deficits identified in a recent decontamination audit.It says that the current decontamination and sterilisation units at the hospital are "grossly inadedquate."City Planners will decide on the proposal to build a Sterile Services Department at Merlin Park Hospital next month.
