Plan to rezone city recreational area shelved

Plans to rezone recreational and amenity land at Shantalla in the city have been shelved.

An emergency public meeting was held last week over a proposal to sell three quarters of Shantalla community park.

However, the City Manager at the time, Joe O' Neill denied there was any such proposal before the Council.

At a meeting of the Council last evening (10/6), a motion, proposed by Councillor Colette Connolly, asked the City Manager to recognise the views of the Councillors that they do not want the land in Shantalla rezoned.

Joe O' Neill responded by saying that the plans could only go ahead with a variation to the Development Plan, which councillors would have to approve and that they had made their position quite clear.
