OVERCROWDING CONTINUES AT UHG

Date Published: 01-Nov-2011
The overcrowding crisis at University Hospital Galway shows no signs of easing.
According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, there are 38 people waiting on trolleys at the Accident and Emergency Department this afternoon.
The union has consistently called for the Health Minister, James Reilly to lift the recruitment embargo so that vacant beds at UHG and Merlin Park Hospital can be used to ease overcrowding.
A private management team is to be hired soon to try and improve the situation at the city hospital.
