OVER 100 SUBMISSIONS TO GALWAY- TUAM MOTORWAY

Date Published: 20-Feb-2008
Over a hundred submissions have been lodged with An Bord Pleanála regarding the proposed M17 motorway between Galway and Tuam. The 25 and a half kilometre motorway will stretch from Rathmorrissey outside Galway city to the existing N17 where it will join the proposed Tuam bypass. The closing date for submissions to the Compulsory Purchase Orders and the Environmental Impact Statement for the M17 was last Friday [15/2].Over 100 submissions and objections have been lodged by residents and landowners along the planned route. These centre around noise pollution, and what objectors claim are inadequate planting, screening and drainage details.Several objectors state that the "design of the road" will have such a "negative impact on the value and character" of their holdings that "no amount of money will adequately compensate the owners for loss and damage."An Bord Pleanála will now review all submissions and objections to the M17 motorway and will decide on a date for an oral hearing.
