Aran Island residents and business people are calling on Galway politicians to put pressure on the Government to ensure the future of the Islands' air service.

Over 100 people from Inis Oirr, Inis Meain, and Inis Mor are attending a public meeting on the issue in the city this lunchtime.

The meeting was organised by the Islanders following speculation that a government subsidy to maintain the service will be withdrawn.

However, the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht says no decision has been made yet as it has not yet been informed of its financial allocation for next year.

The current contract with Aer Aran Islands will expire on 31 August 2013.

Galway TDs Sean Kyne, Eamon O Cuiv, Noel Grealish, Fidelma Healy Eames and Senator Trevor O' Clochartaigh are among those in attendance at the Meyrick Hotel.
