Outrage at brutal killing of foal remains unabated

Two people have come forward to report the names of the teenage thugs believed responsible for the torture and killing of a young foal in an estate on the east of the city. However, the culprits remain at large over a week after the incident. The horrific brutality involved in beating a three-week-old foal to death and then torching its body before removing all evidence has enraged animal lovers everywhere. Tens of thousands of hits were recorded on the Galway City Tribune website and facebook page since last Friday, with dozens of people leaving messages condemning the cruelty and the lack of action by the authorities. A woman has offered a €500 reward on Facebook for photos or video by eyewitnesses which shows the individuals involved in the barbaric act. Another concerned member of the public has set up an online petition calling for the enforcement of a ban on horses being kept in housing estates. Margaret O’Sullivan of the Galway Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) said they had received two calls in the wake of their appeal to the people of Castlepark Estate to turn in those responsible for the killing. They are currently investigating the authenticity of these reports. “Anything we have heard back we have reported to the guards. But the reality is you’re dealing with a closed shop. Hopefully, somebody will speak out,” she said.
