O'CUIV SAYS PRESIDENTIAL SELECTION AT STALEMATE

Date Published: 14-Aug-2011
Galway West TD and Deputy leader of Fianna Fail Éamon O Cuív says the selection of a candidate for the Presidency has taken a step backwards.
Speaking to Galway Bay FM news, Deputy O' Cuív said the selection committee, of which he is a member, "was now back to where it was a week ago".
He also said the committee, which has yet to meet, is hopeful a decision on whether or not to run a candidate will be made early next month.
Broadcaster Gay Byrne announced yesterday he would not be entering the Presidential election.
He had been offered a nomination by Fianna Fail leader Michael Martin last week.
