The numbers presenting to Galway Rape Crisis Centre have quadrupled over the last seven years.

Figures published today in the group's annual report show that the number of people contacting the service has risen from 185 in 2005 to 671 last year.

An increase in recent sexual assault callouts has also been noted from 50 in 2010 to 77 last year.

The centre which is now located in Forester Court has seen its income drop from 456 thousand to 419 thousand due to HSE budget cuts.

Executive Director Aoibheann McCann says this has had an impact on services and on the waiting times for initial assessment.
