An NUI Galway study has revealed that patients with severe breathing difficulties could better manage their condition in a community based setting.

The study is one of the largest pulmonary rehabilitation trials conducted in primary care.

COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a progressive disease that makes it hard to breath.

People who attended an eight week community based programme delivered by nurses and physios were better able to manage than those who did not attend.
