NORRIS PETITION CAMPAIGN GAINS MOMENTUM IN GALWAY

Date Published: 05-Sep-2011
The campaign to get David Norris to re-enter the Presidential race is coming to Galway.
Norris withdrew from the race last month amid controversy over a letter he wrote appealing for clemency for his former partner who had been convicted of the statutory rape of a boy in the 90s.
Up to that point, David Norris had been polling as one of the favourites for the position in the Áras.
After he withdrew, the 'We Want Norris' campaign set up an online petition to get him to re-enter the race and it has collected almost 6 and a half thousand signatures.
This coming Friday and Saturday, volunteers will take to Shop Street in the city from noon to 6pm to garner more support for David Norris.
