NON-EMERGENCY ELECTIVE SURGERY CANCELLED AT GUH

Date Published: 16-Jan-2013
Non-emergency elective surgery has been cancelled at GUH this week due to the level of demand on admissions.
Chief Operating Officer for the Galway Roscommon Hospital Group Tony Canavan says urgent electives such as those concerning cancer patients will be dealt with and prioritised accordingly.
The HSE boss also says there has been a surge of activity at the Emergency Department in UHG this month compared to previous years.
The department has recorded 28 percent more admissions in the first two weeks of the month compared to the same period in 2012.
This morning 34 patients were awaiting treatment at the emergency department while 15 more were being treated on trollies in wards.
