A set of twin boys were among Galway’s first babies to be born in 2022. Aodán and Éamon Frawley were delivered two minutes apart at University Hospital Galway in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Aodán arrived into the world first at 1.44am on Saturday, weighing 7.5 lbs; Éamon arrived at 1.46am, weighing 7lbs.

They are the first children of proud parents Sabhbh and James Frawley of Leagaun, Moycullen.

Mum Sabhbh – who is herself an identical twin – and both babies are doing well, according to James. They were due to head home on Tuesday.

“Sabhbh is an identical twin, and she has twins on her mom’s side of the family and I have twins on my dad’s side of the family,” James said.

He said that midwives in UHG made a presentation to them of a Galway Crystal Christmas decoration with ‘first baby 2022’ engraved on it.

Aodán and Éamon were not the first babies born this year at UHG, however.  The first arrival was Isabelle, a daughter of Stephen and Mary Teresa Treacy from Glenasosha, Belclare, Tuam. She arrived at 1.25am and weighed 3.250kg (7lbs 3oz).
