NEW STUDY REVEALS GALWAY COMMUTER PATTERNS

Date Published: 22-Sep-2009
Previously unseen data from the 2006 Census is giving a clearer picture of commuter patterns in Galway. Over a quarter of all workers in the West from Donegal to Clare, live in the Galway City labour catchment area. The Western Development Commission has analysed the newly-released Census data to present an in-depth study of travel to work patterns to key decision-makers. The study also found that more workers commute to the city from north Galway than South Galway, city workers are the youngest in the entire Western Region, and have a higher level of education that the national average. Policy analyst at the Western Development Commission Deirdre Frost says the trends revealed should inform future transport and planning decisions in Galway.
