The move is part of a government investment in Garda and courts capital projects with headquarters also announced for Dublin South Central and Wexford.
The new facility for which a site has been procured will also serve as the Garda Regional Headquarters for the Garda Western Region.
The project is expected to commence next year [2013] and construction will continue into 2014 and 2015.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Galway West Deputy Sean Kyne says this is a key development to support Garda resources in Galway and will also provide local construction jobs.
