A Moycullen man has been convicted by a jury for the sexual abuse of a child during the 1970s.
Dominic Downey of Ugool in Moycullen appeared before Galway Circuit Criminal Court this afternoon after a three day trial.
Downey had denied six charges of indecently assaulting the girl on various dates between July 1973 and July 1975 at his butcher shop in Moycullen.
The victim told a jury of seven men and five women that she was 12 years of age when the abuse started.
Downey admitted he had kissed and groped the girl but denied going any further.
The jury took over 3 hours to find him guilty of three of the charges and not guilty of the remaining three.
Judge Raymond Groarke remanded Downey in custody to appear before the court again for sentencing on December 8th.
