Motorists arrested and vehicles seized in Galway Garda Easter roads policing campaign

Galway Gardaí made almost two dozen arrests for driving under the influence of an intoxicant following a major roads policing campaign on Galway roads over the Easter weekend.
A Galway Garda spokesperson confirmed to the Tribune that a total of 23 motorists were arrested between Holy Thursday (April 2) to Tuesday, April 7.
This included people arrested on suspicion of drink driving and drug driving in the Galway Garda Division which includes the city and county.
An additional 21 vehicles were seized during the Garda Easter clampdown.
The seizures resulted from transgressions under various sections of the Road Traffic Act, including Section 4 which covers motorists driving without insurance.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that a total of 272 high visibility checkpoints and patrols were carried out on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday, Bank Holiday Monday and Tuesday of this week.
It is understood An Garda Síochána’s ability to check in real-time whether people are insured or not – as well as the ongoing cost of living crisis – has contributed to an increase in motorists caught driving without insurance.
