The oldest entrance at Ballybrit racecourse is to be demolished to make way for a more modern entrance building.

The Galway racecourse committee has been granted planning permission to demolish the north entrance turnstiles located behind the Milennium stand, and in its place construct a 246 square metre entrance.

The plans also include alterations to the third floor area of the Milennium stand which will involve minor extensions of the accommodation area.

City Council gave the plans the go ahead with 2 conditions, one of which stipulates that a financial contribution of 3,200 euro must be made before construction begins.

Manager of the Galway Raccourse John Maloney explains the new entrance building will be 'state of the art'.
