The Minister for the Environment says he will not depart from any of the recommendations made by the Constituency Commission, including on the name of the Galway West constituency.

Phil Hogan has told an Oireachtas Committee that he will not change any of the new names recommended for constituencies by the Commission.

Fianna Fáil's Éamon Ó Cuív wanted Galway West to be renamed Galway West-Mayo South while Labour's Kevin Humphries had asked Minister Hogan to reconsider the recommendation to rename Dublin South East as Dublin Bay South.

But Minister Hogan said he would not interfere with the Commission's recommendations in any way.
