MERVUE TO LOSE COMMUNITY GARDA

The people of Mervue are to lose their Local Community Garda as part of ongoing cutbacks within the Garda Siochana.

Garda Vincent Kelly has covered the Mervue beat for the past four years, spanning all parts of the city from cemetary cross in Bohermore to the GMIT in Ballybane.

Under Garda plans, the Mervue post wil no longer exist, and the Local Community Garda responsible for the Renmore area will include Mervue in their rounds.

Independent Councillor Terry O'Flaherty has appealed this decision to the Garda superintendent, and urged that the Mervue post remain in place.
