HSE officials are meeting this afternoon [2pm] with the family of a Connemara man who was killed in a road accident after leaving the A&E Department of University Hospital Galway in February.59 year old Seán Flaherty died after being hit by a car on the main Galway-Clifden road at Bushypark on February 27th, shortly after being discharged from UHG.His GP had organised a taxi to bring him to the hospital to have a rountine procedure on his arm and outlined in a letter that Mr. Flaherty had speech and hearing problems. No transport was organised to take Séan Flaherty home to Clifden so he began walking.Mayor of Galway, Padraig Conneely, has been critical of the HSE's response to the tragedy and has raised the issue at the Regional Health Forum meetings.
