A meeting is be held this afternoon [Sept 21] to discuss the future of the Art House Cinema on the Dock Road in the city.

Representatives of Solas, the project managers of the Picture Palace, have been invited to convene by City Council's Director of Services Tom Connell.

They're to provide an update on the controversial project which has suffered several delays and setbacks since it was first discussed a number of years ago.

The government has committed funding of 2 point 1 million euro, which it's understood is to be released, when the current shortfall in remaining project funding is addressed.

City Councillors are invited to attend the private meeting but Cllr Padraig Conneely is understood to be one of a number of local representatives who have called for a public discussion on the matter.

Galway City Council says it's working closely with the Solas group to assist in their development of the project and to keep Councillors informed of this progress.
