MEETING TO DISCUSS FRESH FEARS FOR PORTIUNCULA HOSPITAL

Galway East TDs and Senators are to meet in Ballinasloe this Monday to discuss future services at Portiuncula Hospital.

It follows fresh concerns raised by Independent Deputy Denis Naughton that the Emergency Department there may be under threat and its status downgraded.

A delegation from IMPACT, SIPTU and the INMO nurses union are calling for clarification that this is NOT the case.

Padraig Mulligan of Impact Trade Union told Galway Bay fm news that he's confident the A&E in Portiuncula will NOT be targeted.

However he says fears must be allayed.
