MEETING SOUGHT WITH MINISTER OVER CITY HOUSING LIST

A third attempt will be made by Galway City Council to meet with Housing Minister, Noel Ahern, about the current housing waiting list in the city.The latest statistics show that there are 2, 800 households on the waiting list, some of which have been on it since 1999.The city council wrote to those on the list in February as part of the Housing Needs Assessment and only 1,545 households responded, despite several letters being sent.A special meeting was held at City Hall last evening to discuss the matter and it was suggested that funding for housing in Galway city is to be reduced this year.
