Medical journal endorsement for NUIG research on physical fitness
Galway Bay fm newsroom – An NUI Galway research project has revealed that the secret to fitness could be in your back pocket. An 8-week trial led by Dr Liam Glynn, a lecturer in General Practice, revealed that those using a smartphone fitness app walked over half a mile extra every day. The study has been published today in the British Journal of General Practice. It shows that use of an app that gives exercise feedback is associated with a meaningful clinical increase in physical activity. Participants saw improvements in step count, blood pressure and weight during the trial.
