Medical exams at University Hospital Galway are causing severe overcrowding in Casualty. A HSE spokesperson has confirmed there are currently 38 patients without a bed, resulting in an exceptionally high number of people waiting on trolleys. The medical exams are taking place today, which is having an impact on services at the A & E unit. The spokesperson said medical staff are working very hard to alleviate the pressure. Speaking during her visit to Galway this morning Health Minister Mary Harney said it was up to UHG to manage the situation.
