One man is in a serious condition in hospital following a road crash in the city.

The man was hit by a car close to the Rahoon cemetry at around 5:30 this morning.

He's been taken to University Hospital Galway.

It's understood three cars were involved in the incident, but no-one else was serioulsy injured.

Rahoon road is closed between Millars lane and Bishop O' Donnell road to allow for a technical examination.

Gardaí say motorists will have to take alternative routes, which is likely to add traffic on the circular road.
