Galway Bay fm newsroom – A 38-year-old Romanian man charged with the 2011 manslaughter of Oughterard publican and teacher John Kenny has been remanded in custody. Marian Lingurar, who had an address at Blackpool in Cork appeared before Galway Circuit Criminal Court today following his extradition from France. He's charged with the manslaughter of 56 year old John Kenny at Kenny's Bar on Main Street Oughterard on 25 September 2011. He failed to turn up for his trial last June (04/06/13) and a bench warrant was subsequently issued. Today he appeared in court assisted by a Romanian interpreter. The court heard he was arrested in Marseille earlier this week and consented to be extradited to the host country. Detective Garda Fergal Kilbane of Salthill Garda Station gave evidence that he took charge of Lingurar at Nice airport and accompanied him to Dublin airport yesterday where he was arrested on foot of a bench warrant issued on June 4th last year. Judge Rory McCabe remanded Lingurar in custody to appear before the court again on July 8th.
