THREE teenagers have appeared in court charged in connection with a "serious" and "concerning" assault on a man in Eyre Square.

The children's court in Galway heard that the alleged victim required surgery for dental injuries and sustained a broken nose, after he was set upon in June last year.

The three accused, who are all aged 17, appeared separately in court, accompanied by their parents.

They face charges of assault causing harm and violent disorder relating to an alleged incident on June 1, 2025, at Eyre Square.

Garda Gavin Burke told the court that it would be alleged that the three accused assaulted the man, who had travelled to the city from Dublin to meet his girlfriend.

The three teenagers did not know the man, who was hospitalised for injuries to his teeth and nose.

Garda Burke said he understood the man underwent surgery and a full medical report was awaited.

Asked by Judge Fiona Lydon about the seriousness of the incident, Garda Burke said it was his view that the alleged assault by the three accused teenagers was "serious" and "pretty concerning".

Judge Lydon deferred a decision on whether or not to accept jurisdiction and hear the case in the District Court pending the receipt of a medical report and the viewing of the CCTV, if it was available.

All three cases were adjourned to a later date.
