Loughrea singer-songwriter Martina Flaherty will play Monroe’s Live this Saturday, November 19.
Martina is a well-known face in the local circuit having performed with various bands like Charis, Lazy Blues, Belladonna and Tom Portman. She came second in the UK Songwriting Contest in 2009 with a song called Maybe and won TG4’s Feis and Blood competition earlier this year, with her 12-year-old daughter Rhianna. For that they performed an original song, The Dream, which received huge praise from the judges. She also launched a single last April called Make it Easy with all proceeds going to Goal. It can be downloaded from iTunes.
Martina’s work fuses elements of traditional folk music, blues, soul and funk, with an energetic handmade rock sound and powerful vocals. Her influences include Nikka Costa, Bonnie Rait and Skunk Anansie to mention but a few.
For her gig in Monroe’s Martina will be accompanied by her band colleagues Rick Harris on guitar, Luis Asturias on bass, Barry Duffy on drums, Kiaran Kelly on guitar and Marcin Plaza on keys, plus Julie, Edel and Louise from Belladonna on backing vocals. Doors at 9pm. Support comes from Keith Grace from Revolution for Dogs.
Martina’s band will be on stage at 10pm. Further details and tickets are available from Monroes.ie or [email protected]
