LOUGHREA LAKELANDS NURSING HOME TO CLOSE

A Loughrea nursing home is to close at the end of the year with the loss of 36 full and part-time jobs.

The Lakelands Nursing Home in Loughrea is to be wound down on December 6th.

The 27 year old home has a 40 bed capacity but is currently running at a 62% occupancy rate.

Arrangements are currently being made to find alternative accomodation for its 26 residents.

A spokesperson for the home told Galway Bay fm news that the decision was "unavoidable", due to the need for structural improvement works and the current oversupply of nursing home beds in the county.
