Loughrea and Knocknacarra schools secure new classrooms

Galway bay fm newsroom - St. Brigid's Vocational School in Loughrea is to benefit from five additional classrooms under a revised expansion plan.

It follows an investment at the school last year of 4000 square feet in extra classroom space including an engineering technology and metalwork room and a new science laboratory.

The revised project will involve the construction of over 8000 square feet in new accommodation over 10 classrooms.

The school currently caters for over 620 students.

The tendering process for the expansion will commence shortly with work due to get underway before the end of the year.

Meawnhile, City councillor Donal Lyons has confirmed that planning permission for a school extension at a school in Knocknacarra has been approved.

The board of management at St John the apostle is seeking to construct a new staff room and learning support classrooms.

The need to extend the school came about as the school will be at full capacity in September.
