LOCAL SENATOR SAYS CONTRACTORS SHOULD BE FINED FOR LATE WORK

A Galway-based Senator says it's time for contractors to be financially penalised if they don't complete their work by a specified date.Senator Fidelma Healy Eames is calling on the County Council to replace the Athenry Road linking Clarinbridge and Moyvilla.She claims the road is in a dangerous state as a result of the water works scheme.The County Council stated a few months ago that it was up to the Contractors to permanently replace the road.Senator Healy Eames says any contractors hired to do work for the Council should face financial penalties if they don't complete the work by a specified date.
