LIVE: Galway motorway road 'fully closed' as gardai seal off scene

All lanes on that stretch of motorway have been closed as a result with Transport Infrastructure Ireland warning motorists to use alternative routes
A part of the M6 motorway has been fully closed to traffic after a crash this morning.
Gardai attended the scene of the single road traffic collision which took place between Junction 15 Ballinasloe and Junction 16 Loughrea near the Galway Plaza.
All lanes on that stretch of motorway have been closed as a result with Transport Infrastructure Ireland warning motorists to use alternative routes.
They said: “Road closure due to a collision. All lanes affected. Significant delays to your journey are likely to occur. Please use a different route for your journey.”
A garda spokeswoman said: “Gardaí responded to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the M6 this morning, 19th October 2026. There are no further updates at this time.”
Elsewhere, an early morning commuter train from Galway to Dublin has been brought to a halt.
The 5:25am train was being held at Newbridge just before 8am with an ambulance attending the scene.
It is unclear at the moment the nature of the incident but hour delays occurred as a result.
An Irish Rail spokesperson said: “The 5:25am Galway to Heuston service has been held in Newbridge as they are awaiting an ambulance. A passenger on board requires medical assistance, there is no further information at this time.”
“The train has since departed the station again and is expecting just under an hour of a delay to Dublin.”
