LARGE GARDA PRESENCE AS PROTEST GETS UNDERWAY AT CITY HALL

Date Published: 11-Feb-2013

There is a large garda presence outside City Hall on College Road as protestors gather where a meeting of Galway City Council is being held this afternoon.

Protestors say it's a "non-violent, family friendly event" which aims to shut down the meeting.

It's to coincide with the monthly meeting of the local authority which gets underway around now. (4pm)

The demonstration has been posted on Facebook by a group called "Fine Gael & Labour Out".

It's modelled on a similar demonstration which took place at Cork City Council in January where a stand-off continued for over two hours with the protestors refusing to leave.
