LAND AT BALLINDOOLEY CROSS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR COMMUNITY USE

Galway City Council will consider giving land at Ballindooley Cross to a community group, so that it can be used as a cultural and amenity centre.
A meeting of Galway City Councillors last evening voted unanimously to examine the proposal.
They also voted unanimously that the Local Area Plan for Castlegar be expedited and completed by June of next year.
The meeting heard a report from Tom Connell, director of services with the council, regarding the Ballindooley site.
He warned that future road works by the council will require around one third of the site, which measures at one point one acres, and was bought by the council as part of its policy to build a land bank for future use.
Independent Councillor Declan McDonnell welcomed the news, but said that work needs to progress to prevent further degradation of the site.
