Hopes of getting a new water supply scheme for the East Galway village of Kilreekil have taken a step forward.

Galway East Labour Senator, Lorraine Higgins, says a new water scheme for the area is to be incorporated into the new Loughrea Regional Water Scheme.

The Loughrea scheme is currently at planning stage.

Residents living in Kilreekil have been waiting 20 years to get a water supply piped to their homes and many have to rely on rainwater.

The new water supply to Kilreekil will be via a 5 thousand-metre pipeline running from the proposed Mount Pleasant reservoir, through the Banogue Hill Reservoir and along the N6 to the outer area of the group water scheme.

Senator Higgins says the County Council needs submit details to the Department about the cost of the scheme as quickly as possible.
