Seamount College in Kinvara is set to benefit from a significant investment in its student facilities.

It follows the school's designation as a co-educational in 2010 and the resulting increase in numbers.

The level of funding approved by the Department of Education has yet to be disclosed.

It's to be used to provide a new science room, technical graphics room, computer and music rooms as well as two general classrooms.

Seamount College is now in its 90th year of providing education to the South Galway area with 305 students and 87 boys since its transition to co-ed.

Chairperson of the School Board of Management Helen Kelly says it's a huge boost for the area.

Meanwhile, speaking while attending a city conference today, Education Minister Ruairi Quinn says the Department is committed to the future of the school following its transition to co-ed.
