HUNDREDS OF CONSTRUCTION WORKERS YET TO GET EU FUNDS

Over 400 unemployed construction workers from Galway, eligible for EU financial aid, have still not been contacted by the Department of Education.
The workers, who lost their jobs between July 2009 and March 2010, are eligible for help under the European globalisation fund, which provides support to EU member states to support and retrain redundant employees.
According to the Irish Times, a significant portion of the 35 million euro in approved funding is not now expected to be spent.
The application was made by the previous government on behalf of 9 thousand workers involved in construction and related trades and professions.
