The Health Service Executive is to review its decision to reduce funding for Galway Hospice by 3 percent this year.

The cut means a funding allocation decrease from 3.5 million euro to 3.4 million euro.

HSE West Regional Health Forum Chairperson and Galway City Councillor Padraig Conneely has called on the executive to reconsider the cut to ensure the vital service is maintained.

He asked that a special case be put forward for Galway to minimise the cut.

HSE West Regional Director of Operations John Hennessy told Galway Bay fm news that every effort will be made to prevent any disproportionate impact on services at Galway Hospice.
