HSE SAYS NO EXTRA BEDS IN PORTIUNCULA EXTENSION

The HSE has moved to correct the comments of a Galway East TD in relation to an extension at Portiuncula Hospital.

Last weekend, Deputy Michael Kitt welcomed the announcement of a 50 extra bed extension at the Ballinasloe hospital.

However, the HSE says the extension will not provide additional bed capacity but will replace beds already in the hospital.

In a statement, the HSE says the 50 bed ward was approved for inclusion in the national capital plan, and the project will now be put forward for funding approval.
