A new 'health-board' type regional HSE unit could be set up in Galway by the end of the year under a HSE revamp first mooted a few years ago.The HSE plans include the creation of seven new regional units in the west, mid-west, south-west and south-east of the country. The latest discussion document, seen by website irish health.com, states that the north and west may or may not form a single new region under the new structure. This includes counties Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal. The new organisational model is expected to reduce senior admin staff numbers in the HSE and give more power to the local regions in delivering healthcare.Irish health dot com Editor Niall Hunter says it's HSE policy to implement these changes.
