HOSPITAL UNIT AT MERLIN PARK SET TO BE CLOSED

A 24 bed hospital unit at Merlin Park Galway looks set to be closed.The HSE is proposing to transfer the beds to another unit because of budget constraints and is denying there'll be a loss of beds for patients.It says there are 60 vacant beds at Merlin Park hospital every day and this is the best use of resources.Although it won't confirm or deny which unit is to be closed, it looks likely that it will be unit 4 which caters for elderly patients.
