HOPES NUIG AND FISHERIES FIELD FOOTBRIDGE WILL STILL GO AHEAD

A footbridge linking the NUI Galway campus and Fisheries Field WILL go ahead this year.
However it's still uncertain if funding will be secured for its connecting green walkway.
That's according to City Councillor Padraig Conneely who says the bridge is now being constructed in Limerick and will be open in April.
The whole project had been thrown into doubt after it was revealed that funding for the greenway was not drawn down by the City Council.
Councillor Conneely says the funding allocation not taken up by the council was in relation to the walkway and was due to time constraints during the tender process.
The bridge for cyclists and pedestrians is a joint venture between NUIG, Galway City Council and the Department of Transport.
