Historic Meelick Church home to Fatima statue

THE grounds of the fifteenth century Franciscan church on thebanks of the Shannon, in East Galway, was the venue for the siting of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima last week.The statue, which was brought from Fatima in Portugal by Parish Priest Fr. John Naughton, was unveiled and blessed by him on theFeast of the Assumption of Our Lady, August 15.The cedar-wood statue was placed in an attractive local stone grotto, with a water feature, which was built by local craftsmen.
